I think we have a fundamental difference in personality here, Eric. For me, I don't really care about the later stuff or spend time hand-wringing in disappointment, because I think of the original trilogy in a "we'll always have Paris" sort of way. Whenever I revisit those three sacred films, they just blow everything else that's appeared subsequently in the Star Wars universe out of the water. The only Star Wars film that's come close to replicating the magic I felt when I first saw the original three (and indeed the magic I felt over and over again as a child, teen, and into my adult years), is The Last Jedi. That was an unexpected bonus. But beyond that, the rest of the Star Wars universe could disappear and I wouldn't care as long as I had those first three. And The Last Jedi. Which means I need The Force Awakens too. And maybe Rogue One. But you get my point. :)
