I thoroughly concur with all the sentiments expressed here. My father died in 2012. I'd give any of my novels for another conversation with him now. At the same time, I don't have a huge amount of regrets when it comes to the dreaded work-life balance (if you'll forgive my use of an obscenity). My unfailingly kind wife helps keep me in check on that score (she knows exactly how to entice me away from my work, and back to more important family matters), and I'm profoundly grateful for her. :)
