I thought I'd write another comment to address the other major point you raise here, regarding Netflix, cliffhangers, binging, and so forth.

1) Yes, I do think it is unhealthy to binge to the extent that people now do (though obviously it is up to them how they run their lives, and I have no interest in controlling anyone). I grew up watching episodes of TV I enjoyed week to week, and often do that now, regardless of availability on streaming platforms.

2) I strictly limit my television viewing time in any case, because I know my time is valuable (not least, because of all the fiction writing I do). My entertainment priorities are cinema and literature first, ahead of television. And to avoid binging on TV, I sometimes stop mid-episode, exactly as you suggest (at an appropriate break point between scenes).
