I very much agree with the thrust of this article.

My best friend (of many years) is female. My wife is fine with it. Her husband is fine with it. We all know each other, and that ought to be the end of it. Well, guess what? We've had to deal with more than our fair share of "prayerfully concerned" hot-under-the-dog-collar fellow believers worrying about "the appearance of evil" if we're spotted out together. To be honest, I just laugh them off or tell them it is none of their business, considering those whose opinions do matter (ie my wife and her husband) not only have no issue with our friendship, but actually believe it has strengthened our respective marriages.

As for the Billy Graham rule in Christian workplaces, I have known women whose career prospects have been sorely blighted by the prejudice inherent in the uncompromising application of it. For example, exceptionally well qualified female camera operators or producers or whatnot in Christian media who don't get prime gigs because it would involve travelling with another man alone (or other silly excuses). It's ridiculous for all the reasons you state here. I encouraged those who told me about this to stand up against it (apart from anything else, I'm fairly sure such edicts are illegal in the UK).
