I was in management, and I still didn't take them (at least, not from my bosses - I did take calls from my own charges on the rare occasion they needed a question answered, if they chose to work out of hours, or were in a different timezone). I didn't work in the emergency services, so I reasoned that upper management ineptitude and bad planning was their problem, not mine, and it shouldn't interfere with the time I spend with my children. This led to a few unpleasant confrontations, but I stood my ground and because I was good at my job, my bosses came to respect my stance. I have no regrets.
