Greenbelt was forged on the white-hot anvil of the evangelical Christian sub-culture, and most of the participants were church youth groups. In those days, it was somewhere between a pilgrimage and a rite of passage for an evangelical teenager to jump into a battered minibus and “go to Greenbelt”.
