I would agree that this version is the best of the films that have been made, but the best version I ever saw of Peter Pan was on stage, in 1982, at the Barbican Theatre in London (I was seven). Joss Ackland played Captain Hook, and I swear to this day that was a real crocodile onstage. But what I most loved about the production, looking back, is how it didn't compromise on any of the darker edges and Edwardian melancholy of Barrie's original text. At one point near the end, in a fit of jealousy, Peter nearly murders the now grown-up daughter of Wendy in her bed as she slept. I remember gasping and climbing back in my seat, expecting the dagger to fall. An electrifying moment.
Anyway, this score (by James Newton Howard) is good, but the best Peter Pan music ever written is by John Williams, in my not remotely humble opinion. His score for the otherwise disappointing Hook is absolutely outstanding. The film didn't deserve it.
