If you want to include the prequels for a first viewing (frankly, I wouldn't bother) then yes, the machete order actually improves one thing significantly - the reveal of Leia's identity. It's much more dramatic seeing her born unexpectedly as the second twin, than the rather dull way Luke finds out in Return of the Jedi (a particularly damp squib after the dramatic fireworks in the Vader reveal at the end of The Empire Strikes Back). :)
