I'm a Christian, and I must say, I rather despair of Christians attempting to beat fellow believers over the head with the noble-lovely-and-true stick, in a preposterous attempt to exert control over matters that are entirely subjective. (For example, see my defence of horror cinema here.)
The Hays code was absurd. For example, the silly one-foot-on-the-floor rule, the three second kissing rule, the separate beds even for married characters... laughable.
That's before the idiotic prohibition on themes such as drugs, racism, homosexuality, etc.
The Bible certainly doesn't comply with the Hays Code. Nor should cinema. You never would have got The Passion of the Christ under the Hays Code.
One point I will concede is that many films found interesting ways to subvert the code. I wrote an article on this recently.
