I'm certainly not someone who insists everything should have a happy ending. I can't relate to such people. I'm a big believer in the right ending. I once met someone who honestly believed The Godfather Part II should have a happy ending. Absolute madness. (Spoiler warning.) Michael forgives his wife, forgives Fredo, leaves organised crime, goes legitimate, and makes a fortune in the olive oil business? Seriously?????
Given how much I love horror films and weepies, I'm hardly one for shying away from strong emotions. Sadness in films can bring great catharsis. But again, it all depends on the context as to whether I think said sadness or bleakness is dramatically effective or not. :)
