I'm from the UK. I've always thought American booze laws were nuts. If you can get your brains blown out for Uncle Sam at 18, is it too much to ask to have a stiff whisky first? I completely agree with your point about criminalisation (as Al Capone conclusively proved during Prohibition - a law so stupid it had me incredulous when I first learned of it as a child).
