I'm not going to get into details here, but one of my unpublished novels involved research into some very dark subject matter indeed. I certainly didn't emerge from writing that book unscathed. It's a detective thriller that gradually evolves into a horror story, but I'm not sure it will ever see the light of day, for various reasons.
