I'm sorry Arpad. This simply isn't true re: Tom Cruise. He is an incredibly versatile performer. Yes, he's in plenty of action/adventure films - Top Gun, Mission Impossible, etc. But there is so much more to him.

His searing performance in Born on the Fourth of July (for which he was Oscar nominated) is a case in point. He's also great in Rain Man, playing a less sympathetic character to what we were used to seeing at that point, and to my mind is every bit as compelling as Dustin Hoffman. Then there are films such as Collateral, where he plays the villain, his comedic turn in Tropic Thunder, to say nothing of his extraordinary role in Magnolia. He's also terrific in The Last Samurai, Eyes Wide Shut, Rock of Ages, American Made, Minority Report, etc. All very different parts.
