In all fairness, and speaking from personal experience, it happens the other way around too. I think the romantic comedy genre is popular because it is (to a limited degree) a reflection of truth in terms of how all-consuming romantic love feels. Of course, in real life, that feeling doesn't last, biologically speaking, and has to be replaced with something more solid for a lasting relationship. Romcoms seldom get into that subject. But I remember when I met my wife, and how all consuming it felt. It was actually frightening, how out of control I felt. As I've often said, love is a horror story. Thankfully, it worked out in our case. :)
