On a sort-of related note, producers are sometimes unsung heroes of the final cut. Coppola's version of The Godfather delivered to the studio was two hours. Producer Robert Evans rightly took it out of his hands, and recut it to the 175-minute version we all know and love. The same situation occured with The Godfather Part II, again salvaged by Evans.
