Interesting article. Obviously, I love Back to the Future and nothing will change that. One thing I do find interesting though (and always have) is the way the distasteful elements of the narrative someone don't seem distasteful. In other hands, everything you mention here could have come off as incredibly crass, yet it is testament to the genius of the screenplay, the performances, and every other element of the film that it still feels like PG-rated family entertainment. Obviously, there are things here one would never condone in real life, but the suspension of disbelief that I at least experience makes me very impressed with the sheer filmmaking skill on display.
