Interesting. Thank you for answering so thoroughly.

I must say, I cannot comprehend the mental gymnastics involved in rating The Final Frontier better than The Voyage Home, even taking into consideration the bit with Spock laughing (which I always took in the spirit of the film, and as an extension of his earlier attempts at humour, "colourful metaphors", and whatnot).

At least The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek, and The Wrath of Khan are rightly in the upper echelons, though I don't really mind the older actor thing in The Wrath of Khan, especially as the film is literally about aging and facing one's mortality in any case. :)

My father (who didn't particularly care for Star Trek) loved The Voyage Home, by the way. That was the only one he enjoyed. But obviously, he looked at the films very differently to you. :)
