It all depends where you live. I do accept in some places it is tougher to see rereleases than others. If you live somewhere like London, they crop up on a regular basis at cinemas like the Prince Charles or the BFI. Outside of that, some of the titles on this list do get shown in multiplexes every few years or so (I’ve seen 2001 twice in the last half dozen years, for instance, taking each of my children on each occasion, as they became old enough to appreciate it — both loved it by the way). Apocalypse Now is another title that had a fairly widespread rerelease twice in the last ten years.

However, I can only speak for the UK. My understand is that the US does have cinemas dedicated to rereleases if you’re in a major city (I’ve been to one in Washington DC) but I know elsewhere it can be a lot harder to find somewhere showing old classics.

Lawrence of Arabia really is a film that cries out for a big screen. Perhaps it will turn up soon, given that a sequel of sorts, Lawrence: After Arabia, is due for release.
