It isn't as universal as people think: The Godfather, Planet of The Apes, The Shawshank Redemption, Psycho, Forrest Gump, The Silence of the Lambs, Starship Troopers, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Jurassic Park, Dangerous Liaisons, Don't Look Now, The Exorcist, and of course Jaws are just a handful of better than the book examples. :)
