It would take a while to get into here, but it is mostly to do with a certain kind of urban Danish elitism and their progressive ideals (particularly their commitment to gender equality) versus the more old-fashioned traditional culture in rural Holland, which is depicted (rightly or wrongly) as more male dominated. But in symbolic terms, this ultimately takes a bigger metaphorical meaning about liberal European ideals in general.
