It's a clever pastiche of classic Hollywood melodrama. Also that final monologue is so, so good. :)

Pearl does, however, homage the film period in which it is set with romantic, dramatic music, particularly as we’re re-introduced to the farm from X, only this time, it’s not dreary with film grain, but lush and vibrant.
