It's one of my favourite novels and I love the film version too. I must be the only child of my generation who didn't find it insanely traumatic. Yes, it's tough in places, but it's also a beautifully written, profoundly moving, formative novel that made me think hard about how freedom is worth fighting for, and it also proved a gateway drug to George Orwell. :)
