I've heard that too, but I've heard counterarguments as well. I suspect the truth may be somewhere in the middle, but who knows? I wasn't there.

The film is an obviously exaggerated piece of work, and I doubt bears any resemblance to what did happen. However, in terms of the story it does tell, it illustrates one or two things of which I do have a certain amount of personal experience. I'll say no more than that.
