I've not seen this new version yet (straight to Netflix, so a lesser priority for me) but the original from 1930 is one of the greatest war films ever made, and probably the most powerful anti-war film ever made (tied with Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory). I highly recommend seeing the original. It's a masterpiece.
