I've not watched Smallville, but I experience this every time I'm tempted to rewatch The A-Team. That series only works if you're 8 and in the middle of the 1980s. Even then, at the time, I questioned why no one seemed to get killed (Knight Rider, which I prefered, was similarly implausible, but at least people got killed in it).
