Thank you for listing these. Some thoughts on a few of them:
Bicycle Thieves - A masterpiece, and a film I think I mentioned in my commentary.
I don't much enjoy Haneke films, I must say, with the exception of Cache (Hidden). Though I do think he's brilliant, if that makes sense.
La Strada is my favourite Fellini film (I mentioned it in my commentary). I think La Dolce Vita is good, but perhaps not as good as some claim. 8 1/2 is amazing though.
I love Pedro Almodovar and wish he'd been included somewhere. Volver is particularly good, but I think my favourite of his is still Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
I respect Godard for A Bout De Souffle (Breathless), and his was a vital voice in the French New Wave, but I do think he rather disappeared up his own backside in his latter years (the ghastly Film Socialisme, for instance). Again, I mentioned Godard in my commentary.
Luc Besson's early work is terrific (Nikita, The Big Blue, Leon) and yes, The Fifth Element is a cult gem. Not sure I'd put it in this list though.
Run Lola Run almost made this list (not quite enough votes). So did Parasite.
Amelie is on the list (at number 33).
Belle Du Jour is a fine shout, though I'd have opted for The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie for this list (again, as mentioned in the commentary, when discussing Buñuel).
Regarding Der Untergang (Downfall) that's a brilliant film. It may interest you to know that of the 2000 - 2010 German cinema renaissance (The Edukators, Goodbye Lenin, Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, The Baader Meinholf Complex, etc) Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) narrowly missed out on inclusion. If I put my "favourite" rather than "greatest" hat on, that film is pretty much my favourite film of the 21st Century.
The Netflix series you mention are obviously inadmissible, as they are television, not cinema. That said, I did enjoy Dark (despite a rather stark lack of humour that would have made it a bit better) and I've started watching Call My Agent. I like it so far. :)
Thank you for reading and commenting. :)
