Just because subtext isn't intended doesn't mean it isn't there. As an author, I know all too well I have to accept that other people will interpret my work how they damn well please once I put it out there (for example, someone once said my animal fiction novel Echo and the White Howl was a Brexit allegory, which it absolutely isn't intentionally, but if that's how they want to interpret it, I can't stop them).
