Major plot spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't seen the film (I will try to keep the details vague, but for goodness sake don't read on if you've not watched it yet):

On balance, although I enjoyed the film a great deal and admire it's nerve, what happens at the end of this film doesn't sit right with me for multiple reasons. What follows with Craig leaving the role will inevitably be a reboot, or else there will be an uproar from fans. These are James Bond films after all. That means the creative decision taken here has little lasting dramatic effect. Furthermore, I'd also argue it undermines the entire point of the Bond franchise, and what audiences want from it. A broken convention too far. James Bond Will Return is clearly stated in the end credits, undermining matters further. So I either expect the final scene to be ignored in the next film, or else a The Final Problem/The Empty Room type scenario, ala Sherlock Holmes/Moriarty.
