Most of my science fiction writing tends to be dystopian (my novels Children of the Folded Valley and Peaceful Quiet Lives, for instance). In the case of Children of the Folded Valley, most of that was inspired by my usefully traumatic past (in a cult, and subsequently in a very strict evangelical church). As for Peaceful Quiet Lives, that was inspired by divisions in America, and where they might lead.

Besides this, I've occasionally penned the odd sci-fi horror piece (such as Infestation).
