My children are now 17 and 13. I fought a running battle throughout their lives to read them books and show them films before teachers/school, and friends could ruin them in one way or another (including careless chatter about surprise twists). I was almost one hundred percent successful, with a few minor annoyances due to loose-lipped playground chatter. Yes, I'm a control freak, but my children are both very grateful.
