My eldest son (presently at university, so I can't immediately consult with him on your essay) is the comic book nerd of this family. I am merely the cineaste, judging the films I see on their own terms. Of the 21st Century superhero films, I think there have been some very fine entries in the MCU (especially the Captain America films), I loved Nolan's Batman trilogy, most of the X-Men films I enjoy, and I'm a big fan of all the Spider-Man films.

I had no idea who or what Madame Web is in the comics (until you told me), but yes, it sounds as though there really was no artistic justification for making this film.

They all need a break. And yes, I'd happily live without zombie films for a while (I'm hesitant on slasher films, as I think it depends on the treatment). And I completely agree re: werewolves and vampires. More Nosferatu, less Twilight. :)
