My father was a Scotsman (born in Fort William before moving to Oxford in his twenties). He was vehemently anti-SNP and ardently pro-union. He hated to see the way the SNP went from mildly irritating minority to significant pain in the backside when devolution happened. But the truth is, I seriously doubt the union will break up any time soon. The SNP are mired in corruption and are divided over a lot of issues. Plus the majority in Scotland I expect are still pro-union. Some people think they will have changed their minds post-Brexit, but I'm unconvinced.
So yes, much as I respect you and would welcome Texas into the Commonwealth (it would certainly spice things up a bit), country and western remains a red line for me.
