My favourite ten films of last year, none of which are particularly frenetic in the way you describe, and many of which are slower paced than E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. Not all modern films are The Fast and the Furious.
As to the wider issue of your article, I get what you are saying — and when it comes to writing fiction, I agree that spare, economic prose is best, for the most part — but pandering to low attention spans isn't necessarily the answer. I refuse to dumb down, and still have found a large and loyal readership.
