My “Horcrux” Films
Seven films that collectively form my cinematic soul.
Last week, the Medium Town Crier strode along my metaphorical street. He rang his metaphorical bell, informing me a writing prompt has been issued, urging the listing of five songs that define me, or five films that define me. Normally the Dillon Empire ignores such prompts — not because I consider them fishing (or is that phishing?) for personal data, but because I’m all but immune to distraction from my personal writing agenda. However, since this particular prompt originated with the excellent Pierce McIntyre, with whom the Dillon Empire intends to form a strategic alliance via his equally excellent publication Plethora of Pop, I decided to oblige on this occasion.
To that end, I thought a little on his prompt, deciding on a slightly different angle, namely “Horcrux films”; not so much films that define me, but rather films that are me. Those familiar with JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series will be aware the term “Horcrux” pertains to the Dark Lord Voldemort, and how, in an attempt to obtain near-immortality, he split his soul into seven pieces, placing each into an object that meant something personal to him. For this reason, I am expanding this prompt to seven, not five, as I believe a part of my soul resides within the master negative of each of the films listed herein.
