My life is far too complicated to make a good film like The Fabelmans, and frankly there are parts of it I will take with me to the grave. There are two people who know absolutely everything that happened. One of these, my best friend, has begged me to write an autobiography, but there's no way I'm doing that as it would upset too many people who are still alive. As for the second person, my wife, she understands why some things I don't want another living soul to know.

But having said that, there are certain elements that do inform my fiction, and certainly my love of cinema, and how it has informed my critical developmental years (and continues to be a key element in my life) isn't a secret. And yes - how I met my wife is a first-rate romantic epic, full of agony and ecstasy. We were in a long distance relationship for about six months, and it was unbearable. It was actually rather terrifying, feeling that out of control. I knew I had two options: I was going to marry her, or I was going to die. Given the level of obsession I felt, I'm convinced love is a horror story. Thankfully, the obsession was mutual and this one was a horror story with a happy ending. :)
