Not quite as horrible, but my youngest son broke a finger at school when he was eight, and all the teachers dismissed his claim that his finger was broken. We took him to hospital as soon as he left that day, and sure enough, his finger was broken. Why people don't actually pay proper attention to children is beyond me.
