Obviously, I disagree re: Citizen Kane, for all the reasons mentioned in my article. Also, I don't think Citizen Kane celebrates narcissism and egomania for one second. Quite the reverse.
I agree Dunkirk should have won. No question. The Shape of Water I quite liked though. But Del Toro has made better films (Pan's Labyrinth, for instance).
Lots of people have mentioned Driving Miss Daisy in these comments. Just about every film in contention that year was a better choice (Field of Dreams, Born on the Fourth of July, Glory, My Left Foot, Dead Poets Society, and yes, Do the Right Thing).
I agree Brokeback Mountain is better than Crash. I'd have been happier with that winning or Munich, of the nominated films. But if it had been up to me, I probably would have voted for Batman Begins that year (my favourite of the Nolan Batmans, and my second favourite superhero film of all time, after Superman in 1978). :)
