OK, time for me to go into film evangelist mode:

Powell/Pressburger did not just do darker, sinister films, and I actually think you would like some of their more optimistic, whimsical films such as A Matter of Life and Death or I Know Where I'm Going. I'd particularly recommend A Matter of Life and Death. If you give it a go, do let me know what you think. :)
