Oliver Cromwell was a killjoy and a hypocrite. Did you know after England's Civil War, in which those bloody Puritans banned pretty much everything fun, Cromwell had no problem drinking, going to the theatre, gambling, etc? Anyway, after he died and the monarchy was restored (thank God), we'd all had enough of his blithering nonsense (which included stopping women in the streets and scrubbing their faces free of makeup, if they were wearing any). We dug him up, and his corpse was symbolically put on trial for high treason, found guilty, and hanged, drawn, and quartered. His head was left on a pike on London bridge as a warning, and was later stolen, changing hands many times) before eventually being buried in Cambridge University (I forget exactly where, I'd have to look it up).

Anyway, Merry Christmas to you. :)
