People are often surprised when they discover that this is one of my all time favourite films, considering my love for horror. I agree, this is magnificent (especially in a cinema). Yes, it’s sentimental as hell but it works. Christopher Plummer’s “you brought music back into this house” line always makes me complain of something in my eye. It’s a lovely story with great songs and scenery - at least until the Nazis invade and spoil everything. Where would movies be without those bastards?
