Perhaps (and I stress perhaps) the right decision in the short term, in view of the Japanese death cult the Americans were fighting. On the other hand, the ultimate implications of the decision to drop nuclear bombs are still not known. Once Pandora's Box was opened... Well, it's something we may one day have to reckon with, which is terrifying. Personally, I'm astonished the human race hasn't blown itself up several times over, and there have been far too many close calls (the Cuban Missile Crisis, or 1983 Stanislav Petrov incident, for instance).
