Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. If Trump is guilty of a crime and there is evidence to that effect, he should be arrested and face trial regardless, obviously. I'm simply pointing out that I am concerned the media circus around this will cause those who support him to double down on their support, and that I think it will also probably sway undecided voters if (or, as I suspect is more likely, when) Trump decides to try and play the persecuted martyr card (and plenty of other influential voices will play it for him). I honestly wish the media would completely ignore this entire process, and simply report on the outcome of the trial. The more Trump is in the headlines, the more popular he seems to become. The oxygen of publicity is what he seeks, and I just wish there was a way to deny him that. Should people stand up to him? Obviously, but in a way that doesn't make him a martyr and that denies him publicity. Is that possible? Probably not. It's a real Catch 22.
Given that my faith in the US justice system is at an all-time low, even if he is guilty, I suspect Trump will walk (and then go on to win the election). Obviously, as a UK citizen, I have a slightly different perspective on all this, but I do think Trump could well be a psychopath (as are many politicians, in fairness) and it horrifies me that the Republican party don't simply boot him out. But they seem hellbent on putting power before everything.
