Precisely.

I'm a Christian too. I believe the Bible is a remarkable collection of divinely inspired literature, but it has also been perverted into a horrible weapon by people taking it out of context for centuries (see all of post AD history for details).

As for whether we should judge God's actions, that's a bigger discussion, and one that involves the question of faith. There are plenty of times when people do bad things in the Bible, and I think "Come on God, surely that was worthy of a smiting?" yet God does nothing. Then again, there are times when God appears to overreact to minor misdemeanours. I don't understand either, but then I have to either do a deeper study to gain some understanding, or at least accept that I'm never going to understand, but it doesn't matter as it doesn't directly affect me or my experience of God (namely, that he is good). So then I take it on faith that I don't have all the details and context, but God did.

Great article. :)
