Quite honestly, this kind of thinking is a pet hate of mine. I always get irritated when someone, claiming to speak for on behalf of all Jewish people as though we were a homogenous Borg-like collective, says something is offensive to Jewish people. (Recent example: David Baddiel's recent rants on "Jewface" re: films like Maestro, with non Jews playing Jewish people. I didn't find Maestro remotely offensive, and it's called acting for a reason.)

Another stereotype that grinds my gears as a cineaste is when people claim women don't like science fiction/fantasy/horror/action films/gangster films/westerns but only romantic comedies. I know many women (including my wife) who, if anything, are more into all the above genres than I am. And speaking of my wife, I often have a hard time getting her to watch a romantic comedy! (She doesn't much care for modern rom-coms, and indeed refuses to use the term unless they star Cary Grant and/or Katherine Hepburn). :)

I could give other examples, but you get the idea. As for gay people, of the various gay people I know, they are all radically different from one another.
