Really pleased to have won last month's competition. I shall now enter ludicrously tearful Oscar acceptance speech mode, and thank all who read/interacted.

Speaking of the Oscars, I've had weapons grade cyncism about them for decades, and could write a book detailing the absurd oversights and omissions. I know I shouldn't care about who wins, but I can't help myself. I never actually watch the damn thing (I can't bear the sheer narcissism) but I care about what is genuinely the best film, actor, screenplay etc being recognised (as opposed to what is the most "worthy" or most "politically correct").

This year, my interest has sunk to a new low based on pandemic apathy, as Faith Ann puts it. If I can't watch nominees in the cinema, it just seems absurd. Thankfully frontrunner Nomadland is getting a cinema release in the UK when cinemas reopen next month. I can't bear the idea of seeing a probable Best Picture winner only on television, breaking an over thirty year run of seeing them in the cinema.
