As for the women directors thing, Charlotte Wells deserved to be nominated over Ruben Ostlund, especially considering Aftersun is the most acclaimed film (according to US critics) of 2022. Triangle of Sadness is a much lesser beast, in my not remotely humble opinion. Don't get me wrong, I loathe identity politics and tokenism, but there are some great women directors working at present, and ignoring them is just plain stupid. Charlotte Wells deserved to not only be nominated but to win. I said the same thing back in 2015 when Jennifer Kent failed to score a nomination for The Babadook (one of my favourite films of the last decade).
