Ringu is indeed knicker-wettingly scary. I managed to miss it in the cinema (stupidly) but somehow it was more terrifying watching it on VHS, given the subject matter. Agreed re: Midsommar, and The Blair Witch Project is another great shout (I did say this list wasn’t exhaustive) though I’d still have given Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, and Supporting Actress (Toni Collette) to The Sixth Sense that year.

And yes, I’ve seen Aniara. Amazing film. :)
