Some excellent points here. My own policy is to respond to all meaningful comments on my articles (including disagreement, which is fine) but I generally ignore name-calling, people attempting to put words in my mouth, or instances where people have made idiotic sweeping assumptions about me.

I also greatly dislike anonymity unless there is exceptional justification for it.
