Some great choices here. Of course, I could add many more. Spielberg alone has a number of first-rate adaptations ranging from Jaws to Schindler's List. Then there's David Lean's outstanding adaption of Great Expectations, Alfred Hitchcock's astonishing take on Rebecca, Peter Jackson's version of The Lord of the Rings. And too many others to mention: The Godfather, Planet of the Apes, etc, etc.
