Some thoughts.
1) I love E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and feel genuinely sorry for anyone who doesn't.
2) Drew Barrymore has been in a few other interesting films (Donnie Darko, for instance).
3) I have not seen the chat show in question, nor do I have any desire to as I find this celebrities crying on camera thing utterly mawkish and ghastly. On top of that, I can't help but wonder how much of it is performative if the guest in questin is an actor. Obviously I have no problem with actors crying in a dramatic performance )see above comment re: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial), but if a professional actor cries on a programme like this I can't help but wonder if they are turning on the tears.
4) I'm glad Drew Barrymore relented re: the writer's strike, so I'm disinclined to criticise further re: whether she is privileged and whatnot. None of us are perfect and she did the right thing in the end. Still, solidarity is important on this issue. Only films and programmes given a pass by the unions in question should be filming at present (I know exceptions were granted to various independent productions that are already in compliance with union demands).
